Last Summer, we met someone casually who posted an ad for horseback riding lessons. My daughter adored her, the horses, and the whole farm. I've always liked horses, but never really had the opportunity to be around them, so I never realized what amazing creatures they really are. She took lessons once a week, and the barn owner and I started talking a lot more. We chatted about our kids at first, our love of wine, then everything else in between. We started to realize that we had a lot more in common than we had originally realized, and little did I know at the time, she has now become a very important part of my life, and now my best friend. Horses have now become my therapy... my happy place. We would visit the barn several times a week, just to get our fix in, help with random chores, and just love up on the horses. I could be having the worst day ever, and go visit that barn and instantly any care I have just melts away. We had been chatting casually about us biting the bullet and just buying a horse. I gave it a lot of thought throughout the last few months, put it on the back burner a few times, then finally came back to it again this past week. That brings me to today. We recently visited an amazing place called Copper Horse Crusade, which is a non-profit rescue for slaughter-bound horses. Needless to say, we fell in love with a sweet guy named Oscar and decided to adopt. Today, Oscar came home. He will live in my best friend's barn which is not even a mile from us. We'll get to visit him daily, and just live out a dream I never thought was possible. Welcome home, Oscar! You are already so loved, and will never have to worry about going on that semi truck again.
