RED DUN MARE
This is one lucky mare, Quarter Horse, 14 years old, 14.3 hh. She was tagged to go to slaughter in Canada, she had a bad eye injury and she ended up at the feedlot on a week where there were 160 horses. Red dun is Julie's favorite color, so this mare was one of the first ones we tried. Reasonably easy to catch? Yes. Trots sound on the concrete? Yes. Picks up her feet decently? Yes. Takes a bridle and responds to bit pressure? Yes, and she was very willing to take a rider. The only hang up with her was her eye, but we decided to go for it. Our vet does not think that the eye needs enucleated and we are treating her with pain meds, ophthalmic ointment and keeping flies away from her injured eye. She is doing well and she's going to make someone a very nice horse!
